A 29-year-old woman was recently arrested by Baton Rouge Police for the alleged crime of attacking her husband with scissors. According to the affidavit, the woman stabbed her husband and also burned his clothes. Police arrested her on criminal charges including one count of attempted second-degree murder and one count of simple arson.
The injured husband claims he was leaving the residence and walking in the direction of his aunt’s home when his wife attacked him. When police arrived, the man had wounds in his chest and back and a large cut on his face.
Police went to the wife’s residence and allegedly found some clothes burning on the lawn. According to police, the suspect denied setting fire to the clothing, which reportedly belonged to her husband. Police claim she had a lighter in her hand at the time, but that is hardly enough evidence to prove that she set the fire.
When the police asked about her husband’s injuries, the woman said that she had a fight with him and that he had struck her in the face and body. She claimed that she retaliated by hitting her husband with a bottle. However, authorities claim the husband’s injuries are more like those resulting from a knife attack or an attack with scissors.
One thing is certain: the wife was accused based on the police version of the events and has not had the opportunity to present her side in court. Despite the injuries and the husband’s version of the story, the wife must still be presumed innocent unless the prosecution proves otherwise.
