Kidnap and assault of ex-acquaintance ends in criminal charges

A Louisiana man has been arrested and is currently facing kidnapping and assault charges, among others. His bond has been set at $357,000.

The 29-year-old man is in police custody following a late night call reporting a kidnapping. The man allegedly took an ex-acquaintance in her car. He reportedly took her against her will and subsequently hit her and threatened great harm to her. Eventually, the man drove them to the woman's residence where the two stayed overnight, allegedly against her will. The woman claims he also held a knife to her throat during the night and refused to return her cell phone the next day when she left her house. There was purportedly an active restraining order against the man already. The man has been charged with second-degree kidnapping, aggravated assault, simple battery, theft and violation of protective order.

Individuals facing criminal charges are protected under the Constitution. Regardless of the charges or situation, a defendant is always entitled to certain procedural safeguards throughout the discovery process in an investigation's early stages. These rules and regulations help to assure that any evidence or statements are obtained in a legally valid way. If information has been acquired illegally, a common remedy includes making the evidence inadmissible at trial. All individuals have a right to an attorney to help in creating a criminal defense strategy and to guarantee the person's rights are not violated at any point throughout the process.

Individuals charged with a crime may already feel scared and confused amidst the unknown legal processes they are suddenly thrown into. A strong defense may help ease some of these fears and assure the proper standards have been met throughout the legal processes.
