In Baton Rouge, being charged with crimes related to drugs can lead to severe penalties. Depending on the circumstances, a person who was caught in a search and seizure related to drugs might face harsh punishments or be eligible for some form of diversionary program without jail time. These penalties on drug charges might have to do with possessing the drugs, drug distribution, drug trafficking and the intent to distribute. Those who are caught up in an arrest or series of arrests due to drugs need to bear in mind their rights and the long-term issues they’ll face if they’re convicted.

A group of nine men involved in an alleged drug trafficking ring were indicted. The men range in age from 25 to 63 and have been charged with various acts linked to their supposed drug activities. There are still suspects that have yet to be charged, but are believed to have been involved. The charges are all linked to cocaine, cocaine base and its distribution. In addition, there are charges of unlawful use of a communications facility.

A foundation of the United States judicial system is that anyone charged with a crime is innocent until proven guilty. While those who are charged with crimes will automatically be viewed as guilty by a large segment of the population, the fact is that they have rights and might, in fact, be innocent. Regardless of the situation, a mistake many people charged with crimes make is failing to consider their options when it comes to formulating a defense as soon as the arrest is made. Having legal help with experience in how crimes are prosecuted and evidence is found is a key to the defense.

In cases such as this, where someone is were arrested on multiple charges after an investigation into drug trafficking and drug distribution. While the charges are substantial, Baton Rouge residents are still within their rights to craft a defense. Anyone who is facing charges of this magnitude should consider discussing the matter with a legal professional as soon as possible.
