Woman arrested for possession of dangerous drugs

On Behalf of | Nov 27, 2012 | Firm News |

A woman was recently arrested by Louisiana State Police Troop F for possession of methamphetamines. The state police discovered the woman’s drug stash when they stopped her car on Interstate 20. The state police spotted a black Lexus with a license plate on which the state of issue was unclear.

While investigating, police learned that the woman had a previous history of drug crimes. The police found a pending warrant for possession of dangerous drugs from Birmingham, Alabama. Upon further investigation, the police found that the woman was in possession of methamphetamines in her car. The police also found a used syringe and a pipe.

The police arrested the woman and charged her with driving a vehicle with an obscured license plate, possession of methamphetamines, warrant for possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. The woman has been booked in Ouachita Correctional Center.

Methamphetamines are dangerous drugs and they have a high potential for abuse. Possession of methamphetamines is considered a drug offense under state law, and penalties for drug crimes in Louisiana are very serious. Depending on the circumstances, a conviction can result in a prison sentence, fines and seizure of property. The possibility of facing a criminal conviction should be taken seriously and acted upon quickly.

Those accused of crimes are entitled to a fair trial and other constitutional protections. The accused person should seek the help of a skilled criminal defense attorney in order to build strategies that will help the accused with the strongest defense possible. The defendant should build up a case that will hopefully lead to a verdict of not guilty. However, if such a verdict is unlikely, the right attorney can help a defendant pursue reduced charges through a fair plea bargain.
