Two Marksville, Louisiana, residents have been accused of a felony for shooting deer from a LaSalle Parish road and damaging approximately a quarter of a mile of the levee with potholes from the tires of their truck. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the two accused men, 45 and 43, have been booked for felonies on charges of criminal damage to the federal levee and have also been cited for several alleged hunting violations.

The patrolling agents spotted a slow-moving truck along the diversion canal close to the Dewey W. Wills Wildlife Management Area, which is north of Marksville, and heard gunshots being fired. The truck was slowly moving down the side of the canal according to the reports released by the spokesperson of the Enforcement Division. Further investigation revealed that the truck was stuck at the bottom of the diversion canal levee. The men exited the truck and hid does in the nearby bushes. Both men were arrested and will be charged with taking deer during illegal hours using artificial light, hunting and shooting from a public roadway, taking deer from a moving vehicle, hiding illegally taken wildlife and for breaking the open container law.

The tires of the truck made deep indentations in the levee and it is estimated that the repairs will probably cost thousands of dollars. The Tensas Levee District Police will make a decision regarding the penalties to be imposed upon the two accused of the felonies.
