Eight arrested for drug crimes after investigation in Louisiana

An investigation that began late last year has resulted in the arrest of eight persons in Louisiana for alleged drug offenses. Numerous law enforcement agencies began investigating alleged drug crimes in November and ultimately made a number of arrests this month.

Police began their investigation with a 27-year-old alleged supplier of crystal meth in Ascension Parish. They contend that during the investigation, detectives purchased drugs from him on multiple occasions. The investigation culminated several months later when they saw a woman driving away from the man’s home. After seeing the woman throw a plastic bag out of her car window, they pulled her over and found methamphetamine, clonazepam, and Adderall in her vehicle. Police arrested this individual, and then searched the 27-year-old’s home, in which they allegedly found over $4,000 in cash and an ounce of methamphetamine.

After arranging drug transactions with the 27-year-old’s supplier, and that supplier’s supplier, who allegedly had 14 ounces of methamphetamine in his vehicle, police arrested those two individuals, as well as the three passengers in their vehicles. An eighth individual was subsequently arrested, after police claimed that individual was in possession of methamphetamine and over $11,000 in cash.

In connection with the investigation, police seized a total of $16,304 in cash, as well as over one pound of methamphetamine. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the street value of the methamphetamine is approximately $31,200.

A Louisianan who is facing drug charges may wish to seek an aggressive defense. Legal counsel can advise a Louisianan regarding his or her rights and available defenses, including whether police performed legal searches or seizures of assets. It is important to remember that under the criminal justice system, defendants, like these persons, are innocent until proven guilty.
